There is lots of fun on the property. Whether you’re looking to build a fire to roast marshmallows or hot dogs (HINT: handled skewers are in the kitchen), a competitive game of horseshoes, or simply want to take a long walk to see some cool sights, this property has a lot for you.

Trails

The main trail begins directly behind the owner’s cabin. The trail leads through lots of trees and small rock features to some pretty cool large rocks features, a winding creek, and a dome rock house with a seasonal waterfall. The trail now continues to the overlook, but be careful because the homeowners are still working to completely clear the trails.

There is a trail starting near the dome rock house under the log cabin. There are actually two dome rock houses below the log cabin, but I am specifically talking about the one accessible from the overlook. The trail leads to some pretty nice views of the gorge as well as the rock that the property rests on. The trail continues around to the back of the homeowners cabin, but be careful of tripping. The homeowners are still working on the trails. If you choose to explore this trail, be extraordinarily safe around the cliffs. The drop can be 30 ft or more in some areas. When the weather permits, this would be an amazing place for a picnic. As always, be diligent about using bug spray when exploring outdoors.

The main trail behind the owner’s cabin leads to here, but you can now follow the trail all the way to the overlook. We also have stairs along the path, but they can be a big awkward so use caution.

Overlook

From the wraparound porch, stairs lead down to the overlook. Before descending the stairs, flip the light switch at the top of the stairs under the temperature gauge if its getting dark. Directions at the bottom of this page. Take the stairs down to the overlook for an amazing view of the bluff. Rhododendron bushes fill the bluff and surround the overlook. The sound of Mandy Branch Creek and a tall waterfall behind the overlook enhance the view. After taking in the view from the overlook, turn around, take the three stairs down behind the overlook to see the dome rock house below the log cabin to the left or follow a super short trail to the right to see our seasonal creek that falls abruptly below the overlook into the bluff. Adventurous hikers/climbers might ask for directions to get to the bottom of the waterfall with a huge dome rock house that trails around to Mandy Branch Creek where a second small, but noisy, waterfall can be seen.

How to turn on the lights on the stairs and the overlook

The light switch to turn on the lights going down the stairs and on the overlook itself is located at the top of the stairs. You can see it circled in the picture above. Simple lift the lid and flip the switch.
